How to avoid such reactions/allergies?

1. If you want your ears or other body parts pierced make sure to avoid piercing guns, since they could contain nickel and can cause bacterial infections.
2. If you must wear earrings that have nickel, add plastic covers made for earring studs.
3. If any item of jewelry that you wear daily causes a reaction, you can ask a jeweler about having it plated in a non-allergic metal.
4. Try clear nail polish. Painting jewelry with clear nail polish, so that the skin is never in contact with the offending metal.
5. Keep your skin dry where your skin touches the metal.
6. Wear a good layer of protective moisturizing cream, Aloe Vera gel or any essential oil. The better the barrier between you and the metal, the less likely the reaction will be bothersome.
7. Wear it part-time. Take your jewelry off when you do not need to be wearing it.
